How It Works
It's simple to keep your dog safe.

The PetSafe® GPS Locator™ collar makes it easy to find your roaming pet and bring him home again. State-of-the-art technology uses assisted global positioning system (AGPS) tracking to pinpoint your dog's location, day and night. Petsafe's 24-hour customer care center will help you to bring your pet home.

Finding your dog with the PetSafe GPS Locator is as easy as 1-2-3.

1. Program a Home Zone™ area for your dog. If he roams outside of the Home Zone, the PetSafe GPS Locator identifies the event as an escape or boundary violation, and notifies you via phone, email or text message.
2. The PetSafe GPS Locator shifts into Locate Mode, continually monitoring your dog's location and providing GPS coordinates to your personal PetSafe GPS Locator website.
3. Once alerted, either use the website or contact a customer care specialist to help track your dog. The Customer Care Specialist can remain on the line with you until you and your dog are back together again. Remember, the PetSafe GPS tracking specialists are on duty 24/7/365 days a year, providing full-time protection for your dog.

Gain a greater sense of security without limiting your lifestyle.

When you want to take your dog for a walk, simply put the PetSafe GPS Locator into Walk Mode. If your dog is outside of the Home Zone when Walk Mode expires after 45 minutes, a boundary violation is initiated. Of course, if you and your pal like long walks, you can extend the Walk Mode an additional 45 minutes before the original minutes expire.

We've Got You Covered.

As a safety precaution, you also receive a phone call, text message, and/or e-mail message when the batteries on the PetSafe GPS Locator run low and need to be recharged or replaced. Your system includes an extra set of 2 rechargeable batteries and a charger. When you get a Low Battery Alert simply swap out the batteries in the unit, and recharge the batteries you removed. There is no need for the collar to be off the dog for 4-6 hours while the batteries recharge, which would leave your dog unprotected during an escape without the collar. Your dog has protection 24/7/365.

Typical battery life is approximately 4-5 days.

Easy Setup

The set-up process is user-friendly (and dog approved).

Setting up the PetSafe® GPS Locator™ unit is easy. Once the unit has been activated - by calling the Customer Care Center or online via the My Account section of their website - and the batteries have been installed, you are only three simple steps away from being the proud owner of a safer dog.

Simple. Simple. Simple.

1. Go outside and stand at the center point of your desired Home Zone™. To obtain an accurate location, you must have a clear view of the sky.

2. Press the red Mode button for one second and release it. The green and red lights on the device should illuminate as follows:
a. Both the red and green light should turn on, then off.

3. Press the Mode button four times in succession. The green and red lights on the device should illuminate as follows:
a. The red light flashes until the location of the device is successfully obtained, which may take up to five minutes.
b. The green light flashes for five seconds to confirm that the Home Zone Boundary has been set.

Congratulations, your PetSafe GPS Locator is now set up and in Monitor mode!

NOTE: The default radius of the Home Zone is 300 feet. You can change the radius by calling the Customer Care Center at (866) 900-1102 or through the My Account section of their website.

You are free to set the radius to less than 300 feet but due to the accuracy of GPS, a false violation may occur.

Setting up the PetSafe GPS Locator unit is easy.

It's fast and easy.

Frequently Asked Questions
PetSafe has compiled a list of frequently asked questions for easy browsing.

How accurate is GPS?
Global Positioning System (GPS) tracking was originally developed by the U.S. Department of Defense. The satellite-based system is extremely accurate, typically pinpointing a location within a few meters.

Why do you use Assisted GPS and how does it help?
Assisted GPS helps the unit to receive the signals from the satellites in places such as inside buildings and in wooded areas where standard GPS does not work. You can rest assured that if your pet is lost in the woods or is hiding in a garage that you can find them.

Can the PetSafe GPS Locator be worn by small dogs or cats?
The PetSafeGPS Locator can be used on dogs that weigh 30 pounds or more.

How much does the PetSafe GPS Locator weigh?
The PetSafe GPS Locator dog collar weighs less than 7.4 ounces including batteries. It is durable and water-resistant.

What is the maximum radius for the PetSafe GPS Locator Home Zone™?
Your PetSafe GPS Locator works in a Home Zone that extends from a center point that you establish. By default, the Home Zone radius is set at 300 feet. It can be adjusted to as far as 50 miles away. Due to the accuracy of GPS, it is recommended that the Home Zone not be set less than a 300 foot radius or a false violation may occur.

Does the PetSafe GPS Locator work outside the USA?
The PetSafe GPS Locator currently only operates inside the USA.

Will my dog feel anything when crossing his Home Zone boundary?
Nothing at all.

Can the PetSafe GPS Locator be worn on my dog's regular collar?
The GPS locator can be worn on most dog collars if it can be threaded onto them.

How long do the batteries typically last?
The PetSafe GPS Locator dog collar operates on rechargeable batteries. Typical battery life is approximately 4-5 days. A rechargeable battery kit is included in your PetSafe GPS Locator purchase.

After I receive a low battery alert, how much time do I have to replace the batteries before they die?
You have approximately 24 hours from a low battery alert to change out the batteries. However, we recommend that you change out the batteries at your earliest opportunity to ensure adequate battery life in the event your dog is ever lost.

Why do I get a low battery alert in advance of the need for replacement?
This is a safety feature. If your dog escaped, and the battery had very little life remaining, then the unit could run out of power during the tracking process.

Once I register the product, how long does it take to become activated?
The recognition of your GPS Locator dog collar is immediate after registration.

Does the PetSafe GPS Locator work anywhere?
The PetSafe GPS Locator dog collar works anywhere within the 50 United States.

Is the PetSafe GPS Locator website compatible with my PDA or mobile device?
The PetSafe GPS Locator website is currently not compatible with browsers typically found in PDA or mobile devices. They are working towards a solution that will provide mobile/PDA users the ability to access the tracking site. Thank you for your patience.

How long will the collar be off of my dog while recharging the batteries?
You do not have to remove the collar to recharge the batteries.

How long have you been in business?
PetSafe has been in business making products for your pet since 1991. For more details, please see this site - http://www.petsafegpslocator.com/_pdfs/petsafe_backgrounder.pdf.

What is the advantage of using your product which utilizes Assisted GPS (AGPS) and cell phone technology for tracking versus using a product which utilizes GPS and RF (Radio Frequencies) to track?
AGPS helps you locate your dog even if it is in a heavily wooded area or inside a garage; unlike typical GPS which does not work well in heavy cover or inside a structure, such as a house or garage. The cell phone technology allows you to track your pet anywhere there is cell coverage. With RF, if there are obstructions (like trees or houses) the range between you and your pet can be reduced dramatically. The cell phone technology also allows our Customer Care Center to assist you in locating your pet.

If I am tracking my dog and I get a Low Battery Alert, how much time do I still have to find my dog?
You should have at least 5 – 10 hours, depending on how often you send new Locate commands to the collar. If you were to send a new Locate command once every minute, you would have about 5 hours remaining.

When I change the batteries does the unit remember my Home Zone?
Yes.

Where is your Tracking Customer Call Center located?
PetSafe's call center is located inside the headquarters of PetSafe in Knoxville, TN.
